as does the British public, as long as it is not at the expense of equality or fairness. This according to the British Social Attitudes Survey as discussed in the Guardian.

There is low support for the redistribution of wealth from rich to poor (35%) yet the vast majority (78%) think the gap between rich and poor is too wide. These figures appear contradictory but in them lies the implied need for equality and fairness.
