Our Training

We train people in money and debt management, primarily residents and front-line staff of social landlords and local authorities. Our growing group of training graduates join our expanding network of Community Money Advocates, of which we have now trained more than 100. Our training combines basic money skills. budgeting and accredited debt management and has been partially developed in partnership with AdviceUK and Made of Money.

Resident Training
Residents improve their financial skills and learn how to manage their budgets which leads to a direct reduction on personal debt levels and possible rent arrears.

The training enables people to help themselves and their communities and as such provides a grassroots, peer to peer community based solution to money and debt issues. This self-help approach challenges more traditional and expensive ways of delivering money and debt advice, allows us to engage with the most financially excluded and hardest to reach communities, and leads to increased self-confidence and community cohesion.

Our training can also have a direct impact of employability. Money and debt issues can be a huge barrier to employment but with our training people gain the skills and confidence of managing their budgets as they transition from jobseeker's allowance and benefits to paid employment.

Staff Training
The staff training saves money whilst improving rent arrears. Staff are trained to understand the reasons behind rent arrears and how to make appropriate and sustainable payment arrangements. The training can save money, heartache and time as costly eviction proceedings can be avoided.

We provide both in-house and scheduled training courses throughout the year. Our training and network allows organisations to directly address objectives such as financial inclusion, rent arrears reduction, community investment and staff development. For further information please contact us.

Triple Win
Our training offers a triple win to individuals, organisations and communities. Individuals improve their personal and professional skills, gaining industry standard qualifications; organisations have a flexible, proven and cost-effective way to deliver community investment, financial inclusion, worklessness and income arrears objectives; and communities benefit from locally available advice.

Our first group of Community Money Advocates.

"We are pleased to be working with Community Money. The programme not only helps by giving our residents skills, it gives them confidence that they can make a difference not only for themselves but within their communities." Scott McKinven, Financial Inclusion Manager, AffinitySutton.

David Short, Financial Inclusion Manager for Metropolitan Housing Trust says: "We've been working with Community Money since January 2009. The programme works at many levels. It ensures increased advice provision in communities, but also helps individuals with motivation, confidence levels and work-readiness. It assists community cohesion, as well as bringing us as a housing association closer to our customers. We continue to work with Community Money as we roll-out new programmes across the organisation".
